Regulations of Thailand
and of some WTO member countries. |
| |
3. Documents
on Certification Systems / Conformity Assessment
of Thailand and of
some foreign countries. |

4. Reference
and textbooks such
as standards
catalogues of various countries (the standards
catalogues which are publications containing

standards organizations are useful tool in searching

Journals TISI
library has approximately more than 300 Thai
and foreign journals in various subjects such
as standardization, quality, education , science
and technology and general subjects. |
| |
6.
Databases
on standards At
the moment, apart from its own databases
on Thai standards and on library collection,
the library also subscribes
to foreign databases on standards, i.e.
approximately 50 databases on CD-ROM/DVD
and 14 databases on microfiches. These databases
are periodically update to ensure that the
information is complete and current. |

Classification |
| |
TISI library maintains an up-to-date collection
of Thai and foreign standards, technical regulations
and conformity assessment as well as related
documents in the printed and non-printed forms.
The classification systems used in the library
are as follows:
                       1.
For books: Dewey Decimal Classification
- DDC
                       2.
For standards:
International Classification for Standards
- ICS
                       3.
For special publications of standards institutes
and government publications: Classification
system developed by the library itself
                       The
books and documents in the library are shelved
according to their types and are provided
with their indexes to assist searching. Moreover,
details of library collection can also be
retrieved from library databases and CD-ROM/DVD
databases.

ICS
- The
International Classifcation for Standards |
| |
Formerly,
standards are usually classified by the International
Organization (ISO) and various standards bodies
according to the Universal Decimal Classification
System (UDC). However, since the UDC system had
been found to be too complicated for standards,
a new system known as the **
International Classifcation for Standards (ICS)
was developed by the ISO Committee on Information
and System and Services (INFCO) specifically for
standards. From its first publication in 1996,
the ICS the has been revised regularly to embrace
all fields of standards. |
| |
Like
the UDC, the ICS is a hierarchical classification
system but it is provided with more flexibility
and ease for use. The system comprises 3 levels
as follows: |
| |
|
Level
1 To be divided into 40 fields
which are indicated by a two-digit notation. |
| |
|
Level 2
The fields are subdivided into 391
groups which are indicated by a three-digit notation. |
| |
|
Level
3 The groups are subdivided
into 895 sub-groups which are indicated by a two-
number, separated by a point. |
| |
ICS
has been developed to be used by standards libraries
and information centres in the classification
of standards and related documents, in the preparation
of standards catalogues, indexes, bibliographies
as well as in the creation of standards databases. |
